Innovative Medicines Canada Award

I became interested in health care when I was a teenager and was amazed by the palliative care nurses that took care of my grandmother. I became a nurse early in my life, and because of that it has shaped me and influenced who I am in so many ways.  I have had many different roles over my 13 years in nursing – trying out new roles and new experiences and continuing to learn has been an incredible gift in nursing. I ended up taking a path working with marginalized people, and learning so much about addiction, trauma, and the harms of colonization in our country. Some of my roles have included working in the emergency department, being a nurse educator at UBC and St. Paul’s Hospital, working in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and in northern BC in a small community.  All of this experience and learning has eventually lead me to the point I am now – in Nurse Practitioner training.  I am so excited to be in this privileged position of learning and advanced my practice. I hope to continue my trajectory of learning and growing within the nursing profession, while maintaining my passion for working with marginalized populations to increase equity within our healthcare systems.

Thank you again so much!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
