Award Recipient

Michael Forsyth

CNSA Environmental Award

I am truly honored to be the recipient of a 2023 CNF student award. As a self-proclaimed environmentalist and student member of the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment (CANE), I am especially proud to be the recipient of the 2023 CNSA Environmental Award.

Following a brief career as a mining engineer and having the privilege to visit many marginalized pan-Canadian communities, I chose to pivot drastically and pursue a career in nursing. Witnessing the many injustices and determinants of health laid bare and exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, I felt a great desire to do more to help those most in need. I remain greatly interested in applying a holistic nursing lens to healthy public policies regarding housing instability, food insecurity, and planetary health.

Being privileged and passionate about upstream, preventative community/public health nursing, I feel an intrinsic personal responsibility to advocate for those most vulnerable and oppressed in the communities I serve. Through this CNF student award, I will be better positioned financially to complete my baccalaureate nursing education at St. Francis Xavier University and help reciprocate to create more healthy and sustainable communities here in Nova Scotia.

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
