John Vanderlee Award
I would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation (CNF) for selecting me as one of the John Vanderlee Award recipients. I feel honoured and humbled to receive this scholarship award. This will be truly beneficial to my studies, as it will assist me in the completion of my nursing degree by allowing me spend more time focusing on my studies. I plan to work on a Medical-Surgical unit for the first two years after I graduate, which will give me a good foundation in acute care nursing. This will help me with the general nursing skills I need to work abroad, which would be a life-changing experience and something I have been aspiring to do since I began nursing school.
The University of Victoria Baccalaureate of Nursing degree is a tough program; it requires a lot of commitment and hard work. Having English as my second language requires me to work harder to be able to excel academically and maintain good marks. Receiving this award makes me feel that my efforts to do well in school and clinical practice are being recognized. The confidence that receiving this scholarship gave me has inspired me to work harder on my studies and will allow me to make a valuable contribution to the nursing profession in the future. It makes me feel grateful to be part of the nursing profession and to be a member of a team that can make a positive difference in a person’s life.
