Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Award
After completing my degree in social and cultural anthropology, I worked in the South Asia region, where I witnessed the profound impact of health inequities and the transformative power of accessible, compassionate care. That experience shaped my decision to become a nurse; I wanted to be closer to the people I was trying to help—and to contribute to change, not only through care at the bedside but also within the systems that shape care.
Since becoming a Registered Nurse, I have had the privilege of working across multiple settings, including inpatient and outpatient care. In recent years I have transitioned to roles in change management, staff and patient education, and quality improvement. I have helped with the adoption of a provincial electronic health record, developed patient and family education resources, and advanced the safety, efficacy, and quality of cancer care.
My passion lies in improving health care while fostering a stronger, more collaborative healthcare culture. I use informatics, evidence, and education as tools to drive innovation and inspire meaningful change.
Obtaining a Master of Nursing with a leadership focus has further strengthened my ability to lead system-wide improvements. I believe that sustainable change begins with investing in people. I am grateful to receive the Dr. Kathryn J. Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship, and to call myself a CNF scholar. This honour supports my ongoing commitment to nurse-led innovation, excellence, and compassionate care.
Sincerely,
Michelle Laliberte RN, MN, BN, BA
