Nadia Green

Frances Moran Award

Aniin/Hello, my name is Nadia Green, and I am a First Nations Registered Nurse from Berens River First Nation, a remote community located on the east side of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. My late father is George Green, my mother is June Green, and my Stepfather is Harrison McKay. My parents always encouraged me to pursue higher education and so, I owe much of my successes in life to them. I knew at a young age that I wanted to make a difference in my community and the overall Indigenous community, but it was not until I attended university that I realized a career in nursing was in my future. I believed the profession would afford me the power to advocate for my people and their health, and to overcome the many barriers to equitable care provision faced by Indigenous People living in urban, rural, and remote areas across Canada. I was fortunate enough to work as a research assistant at the Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research during my undergraduate degree which exposed me to a career path in research focusing on Indigenous health. I felt empowered to see myself as both an Indigenous nurse and researcher. Now, I am dedicating my work to improving Indigenous health and wellbeing in Canada, by pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing. I plan to educate future generations of nurses and contribute to digital healthcare reformation and policy development that influences access and health care provision for Indigenous People in Canada, especially those residing in rural and remote communities.
