Niloofar Esbak

Beverley & John Carl Award

I am in the second year of the UVic Nurse Practitioner (NP) Master of Nursing program. I graduated from UBC with a bachelor of biology and worked in clinical research for two years in the fields of HIV and Hepatitis-C with the vulnerable populations of Vancouver. I then decided to go back to school and do my nursing degree to advance my knowledge and contribute to my society at another level. I worked in the cardiology and cardiac surgery units for two years after which I decided to continue my professional development and completed the critical care program. I decided to work at the intensive care unit to further broaden my knowledge base.

I have been involved in research prior to and throughout my nursing career and have participated and presented in Canadian conferences over the years in the fields of infectious diseases and cardiovascular sciences. Continuing my education and professional development led me to start my MSN in the NP stream. I believe this to be a great fit for me since it will keep me close to the patients, the part I enjoy most about nursing, and allow me to practice at an advanced level within my profession.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
