Extendicare Nurse Practitioner Scholarship in Gerontology Award
My first exposure to the healthcare system came as a child when I helped my immigrant parents in navigating the complex system. I then volunteered at hospitals and long-term care centers during my teens to learn more about the field. All of these experiences fueled my desire to work in healthcare. While I met many professionals along the journey, it was the nurturing presence of nurses that struck me the most. The profession offered a unique combination of science, compassion and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives.
I went on to complete a nursing diploma in CEGEP, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at McGill University. I gained valuable experience working as a nurse in a variety of clinical settings over the years. Motivated to provide more services to the community and broaden my scope of practice, I am now pursuing a Master’s degree in Nurse Practitioner at McGill University. As a future nurse practitioner, I hope to provide equitable healthcare services to marginalized and vulnerable communities while also bridging gaps in health literacy.
I am extremely grateful and honored to be named a CNF scholar this year. I would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation for supporting my ongoing studies by awarding me the Extendicare Nurse Practitioner Scholarship in Gerontology.
