Obianuju Okpala

CeraVe Skincare Scholarships for Diversity and Equity

My name is Obianuju, originally from Nigeria, Came to Canada in 2016 and currently a Third year Nursing student at Lakehead University. Prior to this degree, I have gained a master’s degree in MPHIL (HIV/AIDS MGT) at Stellenbosch University Cape Town in South Africa and I have worked lot in health care setting as an health educator/medical assistant at Women’s Health Clinic In Winnipeg before I decided to gain some clinical experiences by going back to school.

I choose to become a nurse because I have deeply compassion and a desire to help others, because Nursing is a profession centered around caring for people and making a positive impact on their lives.  I am naturally drawn to nursing because I have a genuine desire to help others and provide comfort and support during times of illness or injury.

I choose to become a nurse to make a difference in the lives of others: As a Nurse, I have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of my  patients, whether it’s advocating for my patient’s well-being, assisting in their recovery, or simply being there to listen and provide emotional support, I choose to become a nurse to play a crucial role in the healthcare system.

I choose to become a nurse because of diverse career options: Nursing offers a wide range of career paths and specialties, allowing individuals to pursue their specific interests within the healthcare field. Whether you’re interested in working in a hospital, clinic, research facility, or even international healthcare organizations, nursing offers flexibility and opportunities for growth. Nursing diverse career options gives me the opportunity to develop and discover my uniqueness and my area of speciality to care and promote health and wellbeing.

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
