CNSA Parent Award
Nursing has always been an area of interest for me; Although I had my first degree in Agriculture, yet I wished to pursue a career in Nursing.
After migrating with my family to Canada four years ago, I decided to make a career switch to health care and ultimately study to be a Nurse.
I initially took the health care certification and worked as a care aide. This experience further boosted my desire to be a registered nurse, as I found fulfillment in providing safe care to vulnerable people and offering therapeutic relationship with the patients. While doing my job as a health care aide, I had to work extra shifts to support my family financially and this greatly impacted on my family time with my young kids (ages 8, 6 and 4 years). Having been uncomfortable with the impact of my job on my availability at home, I decided to commence my Nursing program.
I am currently in the third year of my psychiatric nursing program at Grant MacEwan University, Ponoka Campus. I chose psychiatric nursing out of my resolve to be part of the light and positive movement towards hope and recovery for people across all age groups, culture, and race regardless of their mental limitations. I find Nursing very rewarding as I feel gratified helping people live a meaning life beyond their physical and mental limitations.
I am grateful for the grant from CNF as it will further support me in my quest to be a registered nurse in Canada.
