Margaret F. Munro Award
Nursing has been a part of my family’s heritage for over a century, spanning 135 years. From as early as I can remember, I’ve been surrounded by stories and discussions about nurses’ profound impact on individuals’ lives. Nursing is more than just a series of clinical tasks. It’s about embodying essential human qualities like empathy, compassion, and resilience. I deeply admire and strive to embody these traits in my journey as a nurse.
What captivates me most about nursing is its incredible diversity and flexibility. Every day as a nurse presents new challenges and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Whether it’s adapting to a new medical procedure or connecting with patients from different backgrounds, nursing demands continual learning and adaptability.
As I approach the final year of my BScN program at the University of Prince Edward Island, I feel a deep sense of privilege and responsibility. My graduation will mark a significant milestone as I continue my family’s legacy as the fifth generation of nurses – a tradition I am honoured and proud to uphold. Looking ahead, I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills I’ve gained to make a meaningful impact in patient care. Each day in nursing is an opportunity to make a difference, to advocate for patients’ well-being, and to uphold the values that have guided my family through generations of healthcare service.
