Robin Klassen

Virginia A. Lindabury Award

I am a passionate and ambitious student starting my third year in nursing this fall. I was born and raised in the communities surrounding Kootenay Lake in British Columbia and I am dedicated to improving the health and wellness of those communities. I have a long history of volunteerism that includes extensive work in veterinary medicine, wildlife research, and wildlife rehabilitation, managing a women’s art co-operative in Honduras, and extending to my current positions at Options for Sexual Health in Nelson and as an Assistant Delegate in the Selkirk College chapter of the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association. I balance my academic commitments with several hobbies including gardening, cooking, knitting, sewing, soapmaking, and caring for my animals.

I am looking forward to a career in nursing in the Kootenays, hopefully including working in the labour and delivery unit in Nelson where I was born. I am passionate about sexual health and pregnancy care as I believe supporting parents to create a healthy start to a child’s life is an excellent way to support the health of our communities. After gaining some experience in nursing I would love to continue my education to become a nurse practitioner in order to expand my scope and be better equipped to attend to the needs of our local citizens.

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
