Sofia Mesa Camargo

CeraVe Skincare Scholarships for Diversity and Equity

Hello there! My name is Sofia. I was born and raised in Colombia and came to Canada when I was thirteen years old. I chose to become a nurse because I have been a patient before. When I was a child, I was hospitalized a few times. Each and every time, I was met with an incredible amount empathy and care from the nurses that took care of me. Even into my adulthood, I still remember those nurses and how well cared for they made me feel. Getting to meet those nurses is one of the reasons I first started to consider a career in nursing. A desire of wanting to offer that same empathy and care to other people started to grow in me since then. My wish is to let others know that someone is taking good care of them and helping them get better when they might not even be able to get up from bed. Getting to be a nurse after being a patient myself brings a whole new perspective into practicing nursing. Thanks to this scholarship, not only do I have the opportunity to continue studying the sciences as applied to human beings, but I also get to apply my own personal knowledge on how to treat individuals with great empathy and compassion. Thank you so very much for this opportunity!

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
