Award Recipient

Amanda Eng

Northern Award

I am currently entering my third year of the Bachelor of Nursing Program at the University of New Brunswick. I am honoured to be the recipient of the Northern Award and am very grateful for the opportunities that will stem from it. I have always had a keen interest in health sciences and social justice, which led me to pursue a career in nursing.

Through my studies, volunteer experience, and work at a Health and Social Services Centre in a small town, I have witnessed the effects of inadequate healthcare services and have such developed a deeper appreciation for healthcare accessibility. This scholarship will help me work towards my goal of reducing these disparities, by enabling me to complete my nursing degree, so that I can travel to communities where there is a greater need for healthcare providers. With the reduced financial stress, I will have time to continue leading the UNB Nursing Society and the UNB Health Outreach Program, and being a Nursing Peer Mentor.

In the near future, I would like to gain some experience in medical/surgical nursing or critical care nursing, before pursuing a master’s degree in order to become a nurse practitioner. Thank you Canadian Nurses Foundation and donors for your generosity and assistance. It is very much appreciated!
