Award Recipient

Christina Clausen

Bianca Beyer Award

Nursing involves advocacy, promoting an environment for health and wellness, generating and advancing nursing knowledge and shaping health care management and education. These roles are the foundation of my nursing career in teaching, leadership, service and community development. I am extremely grateful to receive the Bianca Beyer Award this year that will be used to support my doctoral work specializing in Nursing Administration at McGill University.

My passion is to remain clinically grounded yet continue to advance nursing administration research and education. I believe the role of nurses within the healthcare management context has an integral contribution to the future of healthcare systems; however, we need empirical evidence and greater educational support to establish its vital foundation within the healthcare field. Nurses are critical in transforming the healthcare system given their close proximity and knowledge of the patient experience, their capacity to lead change, and their ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals at all levels of healthcare organizations. Results from my doctoral work will highlight the unique contribution, skills and role of nurse leaders working in tertiary care hospitals and can inform educational initiatives within the management context.
