Sanofi Pasteur Limited Scholarship in Public/Community Health
Nursing changed my life, and has been the most exciting, demanding, and rewarding experience that I could have ever imagined. Since graduating from the University of New Brunswick Saint John in 2009, I have been working in a remote northern outpost where I am the only licensed healthcare professional onsite. My specialty is public health, and I earned my CNA certification in community health in 2011. My practise is very diverse, and I truly value the relationships I have with those in my small community.
Fall 2013 marks the beginning of my second and final year of the Master of Public Health program at the University of Manitoba. The MPH program has allowed me to heighten my understanding of population health through the study of epidemiology, statistics, policy, and health administration. Social justice and equity issues are very important to me, and I hope to use my education to further advocate for marginalized populations, and to contribute to high quality, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive healthcare for aboriginal and northern people. While my focus is on the social determinants of health, I also have a strong interest in immunization, communicable disease, and sexual health. In the future I hope to work at the regional level, contributing to health programming and policy, and ensuring fair resource allocation.
The recognition from CNF and Sanofi Pasteur provides validation of my hard work, and having this support means the world to me. Please accept my sincerest gratitude for your ongoing confidence in me.
