Award Recipient

Megan Bourque

Ovarian Cancer Canada Award

I am honored to be the recipient of the CNF ovarian cancer award. I graduated from nursing at the University of New Brunswick in 2010. I knew early on in my nursing studies that I would pursue a future in research and evidence based-practice. Currently, I am a Masters of Nursing student at Dalhousie University in the thesis stream set to graduate in 2015.

I began my career in nursing in 2010 first in cardiac care, but soon transitioned into cancer care as an oncology nurse on a busy inpatient oncology unit in Halifax, NS. It was during my work in this area where I realized that oncology care was an area of great passion and interest for me. Consequently, I have dedicated my masters’ thesis to understanding the sexual experiences of colorectal cancer patients post treatment. My thesis work uses an innovative synthesis methodology in an effort to explore the sexual experiences of survivors. It is my hope that the findings of this research will help inform future guidelines or policies to improve the care of this patient population. I would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation and Ovarian Cancer Canada for this award, as well as my thesis supervisors and friends and family who continuously support and inspire me to thrive and grow as a clinician and researcher.
