TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award – Baccalaureate
I grew up in South Slocan, a small community nestled within the Kootenays in British Columbia. Growing up in this rural area I enjoyed camping, fishing, riding my bike, catching frogs, and other outdoor activities. This lifestyle followed me into adulthood, as I still enjoy being outside and keeping active. I obtained my Health Care Assistant certificate in 2011, and since then decided that nursing was where I wanted to be. I have proven to myself that hard work and dedication definitely pays off and that I have a bright and successful future ahead of me.
In the fall I will be entering my 3rd year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. I chose to further my education and become a registered nurse because not only do I have a passion for working with people and being there for them in some of their most vulnerable times of their lives, but I also enjoy to be challenged, and the nursing program, and profession, is doing just that. Once I complete the program, and become a Registered Nurse, I plan on staying in my community and eventually specializing to become an emergency room nurse.
