Dr. Helen K Mussallem Fellowship
My nursing practice has been primarily as a maternity care nurse. It was on a Labour and Delivery Unit in Calgary, Alberta where I found my passion. In my practice, I observed the trends occurring in women’s health, and decided to pursue a Master of Nursing degree at the University of Calgary researching caesarean sections on maternal request. I also have the pleasure of sharing my passion and expertise as a nursing instructor at the university in the undergraduate program.
The Canadian Nurses Foundation Dr. Helen Mussallem Award will allow me to dedicate my time to my research and aid in the completion of my thesis so I can continue to grow in my professional practice as well as my knowledge. Upon completion of my graduate degree, I plan to continue to improve the care I provide, and also to share the knowledge I gain in my role as a nursing instructor. I hope to continue my academic studies at a doctoral level to better my ability to expand nursing knowledge through research and bring that knowledge into practice through educating future generations of nurses.
Overall, my hope is to continue researching trends in maternity care in order to play a significant role in shaping maternity care so that the best possible care is provided to growing families.
