Canadian Nurses Foundation Scholarship
I came to nursing after several years spent working in health research. Committed to making a positive contribution to my community, I felt that nursing held the greatest possibility for advocacy and forming meaningful connections with people. I am currently in my third year of a BSN program at Langara College in Vancouver, BC. Additionally, I hold a BA and an MA in Sociology from UBC and York University, respectively. Since April, I have had the great fortune of working as an Employed Student Nurse on the HIV/AIDS unit at St. Paul’s Hospital – where I continue to learn what it means to be a great nurse from the amazing staff and patients. I am happy to have chosen a profession with so many opportunities to affect change. I hope to apply the health promotion and harm reduction skills I have learned through my program and employment to my future nursing work. Ultimately, I would like to further health equity by working at a community level with underserved and hard to reach populations. Oncology nursing would also be a great privilege, and one I hope to explore more prior to graduation. I am extremely grateful to receive funding through the CNF to facilitate the completion of my nursing education and would like to thank all donors for continuing to make scholarships like this possible.
