TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award – Baccalaureate

Being awarded the TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Scholarship is a great honour and will help support me during my journey on becoming a registered nurse in Saskatchewan. I am a Woodland Cree, born and raised in the northern town of La Ronge, Saskatchewan. I am currently attending my second year of nursing in Saskatoon. I have previously attended the University of Regina to obtain a B.A. in Psychology degree. I plan on using my mental health and nursing background together to work in First Nations communities and northern areas, where healthcare access and opportunities are dire compared to urban areas.

As a current board of directors’ member for the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada, I can utilize the experiences and knowledge I have gained through my schooling and networking with nurses across Canada to become a more well-rounded healthcare professional for my future clients. This scholarship will help me remain focused on my studies and opens up more time for me to network and learn from others. I am very excited to use this scholarship for these purposes and to get out into the work world as soon as I can. Thank-you for this opportunity to forward my education.

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
