Marjorie Dornan

Royal Victoria Award

I am a term 6 nursing student at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia.  I chose to go into nursing because I have always had a passion for helping others.  I have really enjoyed all of my nursing school experiences so far, which have ranged from residential care to maternity, and everything in between.  Through these experiences, I found a love for pediatric nursing, and have decided that I will be applying for my final preceptorship at BC Children’s hospital in Vancouver.

After graduation, I hope to land a job at BC Children’s in either the surgical unit, or in the pediatric intensive care unit.  After a couple of years at the bedside, I will be going back to school to attain my Nurse Practitioner designation.  Once I have completed my Nurse Practitioner designation, I hope to return to BC Children’s to work in a leadership role.  Eventually, I think I will leave the hospital setting, and I would love to one day run a family practice clinic that specializes in pediatric care.

Nursing school, while extremely challenging, has really solidified that this is the right career choice for me.  I have worked very hard, and my goal is to continue to thrive academically for the remainder of my degree.  I could not be happier with where I am, and I am so excited for graduation and to finally see those two wonderful letters next to my name!
