Mary Ann Trazo

RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

I am a nurse from the Philippines. I am currently working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Saskatoon. I love my work as a LPN and I noticed that there’s not much difference a LPN and a Registered Nurse (RN) do. But my goal is to finish my nursing pathway as a registered nurse. Being as such, I believe I would be able to perform my full scope of practice and serve my patients better the same way as when I served my patients in my home country. Furthermore, being a registered nurse, I have more options to go into different areas of the health care delivery system like in public health and pediatrics which I believe where my passion is. I also believe in the value of continuing education as a weapon for an individual to reach his or her highest potential. Through pursuing further education, I am also imparting to my growing children the value of perseverance and hard work and not just the financial benefit that goes with it. The benefit that this scholarship would give me and my family is endless as reaching my goal would make me not just a better nurse, but also a fulfilled person and being fulfilled, I am able to give care to others with confidence and joy.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
