Olivia Wale

TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award – Baccalaureate

I’m from the Gitxsan Nation of Northern British Columbia. I grew up in Kamloops BC and moved to Vancouver Island to attend the University of Victoria in 2008.  I completed a Bachelor of Science with a combined major in Biology and Psychology in 2013 and I began working as Geotechnician near my territory in northern BC.  During my years working and living in a remote community and traveling to various countries the world, I became increasingly interested in understanding the factors that contribute to the health of people and communities.  I decided to pursue nursing, as it would allow me to work collaboratively with people, wherever they were on their journey towards health.

I’m approaching the last year of the UBC Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in Vancouver, BC, and I will graduate as a Registered Nurse in April 2018. I’m very interested in working in rural communities as an RN, but I’m open to what the future holds.
