Rasha Wahid

CNF Diversity Award

I am an internationally educated nurse (IEN) from Egypt and currently enrolled in the Post-RN BScN program at York University.   I have always wanted to be a nurse and my greatest joy have always come from connecting with other people and utilizing my learned skills to help them.   Earlier in my nursing career, I discovered I have strong passion to studying psychology and mental health.  I graduated from a general BScN degree in nursing and studied further to Masters and PhD level to become specialized in mental health nursing.  I practiced mental health nursing both on a clinical and teaching level for the last 15 years.  I enjoy travelling around and I had the opportunity to practice nursing in different countries, in various health care settings and with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

When I arrived to Canada in 2016, I registered as a mental health counsellor in Ontario via the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) to be able to practice in the field of mental health until I obtain my nursing registration license.  I aim to become a nurse practitioner, establish my own private mental health practice and be able to support my patients when they are at the most challenging times of their lives.  Nursing has always gave my life a meaning and has shown me that my true calling in life was to be a nurse
