Military Nurses Association Award
I am currently a graduate student at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Nursing’s Masters of Nursing (Family/All Ages Nurse Practitioner stream) with a Specialization in Aging. Having completed both a Bachelor of Science Degree and an After Degree in Nursing, I have worked as a research technician in the field of neuroscience and as a registered nurse in the emergency department at the University of Alberta. I endeavor to meld these two passions into a career as a clinician scientist in the field of geriatric emergency care. The financial assistance you have provided will allow me to focus on my studies while maintaining a manageable connection to my practice.
My research project aims to address the quality of care provided to older people during their transitions of care to the emergency department. With a passion for lifelong learning, health care and science I hope to eventually complete a PhD and continue my commitment to not just practice but also to the academic world. I am very active in outdoor pursuits which include mountain biking, snowboarding, climbing, trekking and ski touring. I feel very fortunate to be able to integrate my practice, education and science and to be supported in such efforts by fantastic organizations like the Nursing Sisters’ Association of Canada and the Canadian Nurses Foundation.
