Award Recipient

Shea Humphreys

Nightingale Award

Receiving the Nightingale Award is going to benefit me in many ways. The most direct and immediate way is to allow me to finish my Bachelor of Science in Nursing on schedule. This is going to allow me to get out into the healthcare system and start working with clients.

The second, more roundabout way the award will help along my education, is that by getting into the workforce I can start to accrue hands-on working hours, and apply to take the Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the University of Saskatchewan. I would like to earn my Nurse Practitioner Certificate because I believe that nurse practitioners fill a gap in our healthcare system, and that they deliver a kind of care that family physicians are not able to. I believe that the two professions complement each other, and working together they can improve healthcare for all Canadians. Thank you very much for the assistance in achieving these goals!
