CNF Award – Baccalaureate
My name is Brittany deGraves, and I am in my fourth year in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Honors program at the University of Alberta. I chose to become a nurse as, throughout my life, I have witnessed many of my family members experiences in the hospital and have always had a deep respect for nursing. This love for nursing intensified when I was 17 years old and was provided with the opportunity to complete a summer internship at a local hospital mainly focused on shadowing and helping the nurses in diagnostic imaging. This was the moment that I realized that I wanted to complete my undergraduate degree in nursing. My goal is to become a nurse clinician-scientist, as during my degree I have also developed a love for research. I am proud of myself for choosing this profession, for sharing my passion for healthcare, and for becoming a CNF and Mitacs Globalink Scholar. I am currently placed in the Netherlands completing research focused on Long Term Care and am grateful for the many opportunities I have been given by agencies such as CNF to pursue both my research and clinical development.
