Award Recipient

Jody Prince

Northern Award

Greetings, I am a Metis woman residing in the Northwest Territories. I have five children, 2 step-children, and two grandchildren. Currently, my eldest daughter and I are in the same program and are set to be in the same graduating class.

Two years ago, I resumed my Nursing journey and am now entering my third year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Aurora College & the University of Victoria. I have always wanted to be a nurse but due to life circumstances I had been unable to commit myself to this very demanding career path, until now.

In 2008, I completed the prerequisites for the nursing program only for the program to be awarded to another institution away from my home community. As I had small children at the time, relocation was not an option for me.  But I had never given up on my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse and in 2015 I applied and was accepted.  I have excelled in the program and have made the honour roll in both my first and second year of study.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation for awarding me the Northern Award and providing me the opportunity to call myself a CNF scholar.
