Julia Kruizinga

Yvonne Andrews Award

My name is Julia Kruizinga and I am a third year nursing student at Queen’s University. I chose nursing because I love learning about people, hearing their stories and combining that with promoting and teaching health and wellbeing. I love the focus nursing has on the unique relationship and interactions between those you work alongside and the incredible role and responsibility the nurse has. I currently serve at my university in the role of President of the Nursing Science Society, a role in which I advocate for fellow students and speak on behalf of important student issues in nursing and the community. I see this area of leadership applicable to nursing, because advocating for the needs of clients and ensuring they are met is crucial. As an individual that felt called into the nursing vocation, it is my intent to serve wholeheartedly through nursing and commit my professional goals to advancing the practice of nursing. I have been very fortunate to grow and be challenged as a person through my nursing education and I am very excited to be able to serve in whatever capacity that looks like in a healthcare field that is focused on compassionate, empathetic and selfless care.
