Award Recipient

Lauren Wiebe

Judy Hill Memorial Award

I am very thankful and humbled to receive this award. Since I was a child, I was interested in health and working in healthcare for many reasons: the knowledge, the ability to help others, connect with people, the fast paced environment and diversity of opportunities and the list goes on and on. I ultimately decided on nursing due to its direct patient care and relationships. It is hard to put into words, unless you have experienced it, what a privilege it is to share those moments at the patient bedside.

I recently completed my preceptorship in the emergency department, and following graduation, I would like to pursue my critical care or emergency nursing training. I plan to continue to work in the ED to consolidate my skills. I am interested in gaining experience in emergency departments in both urban and rural settings to gain exposure working in a wide range of conditions, specifically resource constrained settings.

My long term goal is to combine my public health background with my nursing degree, to work with local and international organizations in emergency preparedness and response, to create holistic, sustainable and culturally appropriate health responses and interventions. This career offers versatile skills that can help combat global inequalities, and I am very grateful to be a part of this profession.
