Miranda Mitchell

TD Aboriginal Nursing Award – Baccalaureate

I am a Mi’kmaq woman from Esgenoopetitj First Nation, New Brunswick. I am entering my third year of the bachelor of nursing program at the University of New Brunswick. The program thus far has been an amazing experience. It has been tough so far, but through the program I have found out who I am and what matters most to me. I know that this is what I am supposed to be doing; it offers me great joy to help people in any way possible.

Once I graduate, I plan on working in a hospital to gain the valuable experience that it offers. After a few years I would like to work in a First Nation community and offer culturally competent care as well as offer an alternative holistic approach to healing including such practices as yoga and mindfulness. I would like to work with the whole population, but I would like to focus a lot of my time on the elderly and young people. This scholarship will help me focus my energy towards my studies to become a competent nurse. I would like to thank all who have made this possible, I will make you proud
