CeraVe Skincare Scholarships for Diversity and Equity
My name is Olushola Asagunla, a third-semester nursing student at Thompson Rivers University Kamloops. I am married and blessed with two beautiful daughters. I emigrated to Canada with my family three years ago. Being a person of colour, I am pleased to have been considered for Cerave Skincare Scholarship through the Canadian Nursing Foundation. As this scholarship emphasized diversity and inclusion, it meant so much to me.
My decision to become a nurse was birthed when I volunteered to help my grandmother with her medical routines back in Nigeria. I get immense satisfaction from caring for older adults, making a difference in their world and ensuring they build trust in me. I was brought up with the values of generosity, compassion, sharing, assistance, and empathy for everyone around me; these values developed and nourished my desire to pursue a career in nursing.
This summer, I worked part-time with the Kamloops Senior Village. At the same time, I am taking some summer classes, and juggling the classes and work has been challenging. However, I am happy to put in the time because I can connect with the seniors, making a difference in their lives while improving my skills to be a better nurse.
I am privileged to have received this scholarship award from Canadian Nursing Foundation. I want to thank CeraVe Skincare for its generosity in prioritizing diversity and equity, which creates a setting that values individuality across various dimensions.
The journey has been demanding as I must focus on my studies while also fulfilling my family’s needs. The funds I will receive from this scholarship will help me with my educational expenses. It will also make me focus on my studies to achieve my dream of becoming a nurse.
