Sarah Galaise

CNSA Parent Award

My name is Sarah Galaise. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. In my early twenties, I graduated with honors from the Practical Nursing program at Algonquin College in 2000. After graduating, I volunteered for several months in India with the Missionaries of Charity with palliative care patients. This experience had a big impact on me.

Over the last 20 years, I have had many gratifying and memorable experiences as a Licensed Practical Nurse. I have worked in acute care facilities, long term care, and palliative care in various locations in the Maritime’s. Also, I have worked with Practical Nursing students and Resident Care Worker students as a Holland College clinical supervisor in acute care and long-term care. Helping students build their nursing skills and confidence to provide high quality, professional patient centered care was a big task, but I found the challenge inspiring and rewarding.

I am the mother of three children and in their early childhood I stayed home with them. I have always wanted to pursue more education in nursing and now that our children are more independent, I am ready to fulfill my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. With nursing experience and personal growth, I finally feel ready to take on a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and that is exactly what I am doing at Cape Breton University! Only two more terms to go!

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
