Trina Thorne

Aramark Canada Nursing Award

I have 20 years of experience in nursing in various health care settings, including acute care, critical care and most recently as a Nurse practitioner continuing care. My nursing career has been shaped by my desire for professional development and my drive to improve quality of care. I am very grateful for the generosity of CNF and the donors, and the support of my family and friends who have made it possible for me to pursue my professional goals.

I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Alberta. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed longstanding issues in the care of older adults. My research focus is on improving the quality of life and care for older adults living in care homes as well as the quality of worklife for staff. After graduating, I will continue to work with older adults and the continuing care workforce to improve quality and advocate for resources such as more regulated nurses and Nurse Practitioners in care homes. I am truly honoured to be a CNF scholar and recipient of the Aramark Canada Nursing Scholarship.
