Johnson & Johnson Award
Since childhood, I’ve been drawn to the healthcare field for its focus on meaningful human connections. Upon completing my Bachelor of Health Sciences degree at McMaster University amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself uncertain about my future role in healthcare. This uncertainty led me to a position as a personal care assistant at a group home for individuals with disabilities. Here, I worked alongside a diverse team of nurses, physiotherapists, and recreational assistants, providing crucial support to clients during an isolating and challenging period.
I quickly developed a deep appreciation for this role, as it allowed me to truly understand the unique needs of each individual by providing consistent care. Inspired by this experience, I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Toronto, where I was fortunate to be accepted. My academic and clinical journey has continuously affirmed my passion for nursing. I’ve had the privilege of learning from a wide range of patients across child, adult, mental health, and older adult hospital units.
In addition to my studies, I served as a Research Assistant within my faculty, focusing on improving access to cancer care and research opportunities for marginalized communities, including my own. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to nursing and my pride in being part of a resilient community of healthcare professionals dedicated to caring and advocating for diverse patients.
